Remarkable Story of Recovery

First a little background.  I am 59 years young. I enjoy being active, golfing, bike riding, exercising, swimming and walking with my wife.  I work in a manufacturing setting and work an average of 56 hours a week on concrete.

As you age you start feeling more aches, pains and stiffness more frequently.  To get rid of this I tried stretching, foam rolling and exercise which would give me temporary relief.  As time went on it became more and more temporary, to the point that 5 minutes after stretching I felt tighter than before I stretched.  Standing for any length of time (1 minute) was hard. After having hernia and bowel obstruction surgery I thought the rest would help relieve some of the symptoms.  After returning to work on a limited basis all my symptoms returned, but worse. I had a difficult time working, driving a car, putting on my pants, socks, everyday life stuff.  All the things I enjoyed were not fun anymore. My back was in pain!

I went to physical therapy for 6 weeks which only made the symptoms worse.  I then went to the neurospine center which specializes in spine and back problems.  After an MRI and doctor visit he told me, “So what do you want us to do? I hope my back looks as good as yours when I am your age.” Thanks a lot!  I began to give up hope, I was willing to try anything. My daughter and her husband mentioned this doctor in Libertyville, IL. I live in Appleton, WI which is 175 miles one way.  Being desperate, I made an appointment. Dr. Carl gave me a diagnosis in the short time I was there. He told me what was wrong when others couldn’t. He was straightforward and honest, even though it wasn’t what I wanted to hear.  I was a train wreck with multiple levels of degenerative discs throughout my whole back along with improperly healed discs from previous injuries and severe levels of a word I had not heard before—adhesion. Being that Dr. Carl was the only one who gave me a diagnosis, I started treatment with him.

I commuted 2x a week for about 3 months, then double treatments once a week for maybe 3 more months, then once every 2 weeks and now currently once a month.  I had so many areas to work on I was a bit frustrated at first, expecting to feel like new right away—isn’t that what we all would want? I just trusted Dr. Carl’s direction and did only what he told me to do.

I could go on and on, but let me say that the results have been nothing short of miraculous.  My body is still getting better as I write this. I have been enjoying life the way I used to (although I probably play golf too much.)

When I see Dr. Carl once a month he asks how I am doing and I don’t know what to tell him sometimes because I feel so much better.  The only time I might be getting sore is if I worked too many hours or golfed too much and even then I recuperate much better and quicker than I ever did.  My range of motion in my back is still improving. I can stand in one spot for long periods of time.

No one in Wisconsin does what Dr. Carl does and even if someone moved to my area who did the same thing, I would still go to Dr. Carl because I not only met a man who is excellent at what he does with great passion to help others, but I met a man I am proud to call a friend.

I am so glad that God led me on this path to Dr. Carl.

With thankfulness,

Tom
